About Primary 1 Scheme of Work

The Lagos State Unified Scheme of Work serves as a roadmap for effective teaching and learning in both public and private primary 1 classrooms. This curriculum outline details the subjects and topics to be covered throughout the academic year – first, second, and third terms. By following this scheme, teachers can ensure all crucial concepts are addressed before the year’s end.

Basic primary education is the cornerstone of a child’s academic journey. It’s in these early years that students develop foundational skills essential for future success. This stage requires a high-quality education that equips children with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive.

The Lagos State Ministry of Education recently reviewed the curriculum in 2023. This updated Unified Scheme of Work incorporates a variety of subjects that aid in the proper upbringing of a child.

The scheme covers 12 core subjects. National Values Education encompasses Social Studies, Civic Education, and Security Education, while Basic Science and Technology combines Basic Science, Information Technology, and Physical and Health Education. In total, there are approximately 18 subjects taught to the pupils, with Agriculture and Home Economics offered as optional subjects.

Below is the list of subjects taken in Basic Primary Classes:
